Today I picked up my Pokemon Sapphire. Interestingly, Toys R Us had it on sale already, a $30 game at $25. This mightily confused the cashier, since I had paid $5 to reserve it. Or actually, I used a TRU gift certificate, so I paid nothing according to my receipt. You can imagine the minimum wage confusion that resulted.
Once that was all straightened out, I was able to start my journey. My first impression is that it is eerily similar to the previous two Pokemon games. Just somewhat prettier. I chose the Treecko as my starting pokemon, but I quickly filled out my party with all the nearby low-level crap pokemon. So far, I've concentrated on the Treecko and a Wurmple as my main battlers. I've pegged the Wurmple as a Weedle/Caterpie type, and it already evolved into a dopey Cascoon, so I'm probably right on. Its next evo will likely be some kind of butterfly beast.
Sapphire restructured the familiar pokedex ordering, which stinks. Pokemon #1 is now Treecko, not Bulbasaur. I wonder if Professor Birch has an explanation for this sudden break in continuity.
Just about every pokemon I've encountered has been an entirely new breed, which is to be expected for a sequel sequel. The only "original" series monsters I've seen is a Machop and a Magikarp. Three Magikarps actually, in a ridiculous battle against my one Cascoon. My stupid Cascoon is a lousy fighter, and it handled three Magikarps without taking any damage at all, since the Magikarps are even stupider. Splash attack. Some things never change.
Anyway, I'm going to make diary entries to track my progress. Just entered Rustboro Town and learned a little about Devon Corporation. Had a brief run-in with a Team Aqua Grunt. Turns out my Dad is the Gym Leader of Petalburg Town, which is pretty cool.
Time: 2:31
Pokedex: 7
Party: Cascoon lv8, Poochyena lv6, Treecko lv13, Lotad lv4, Shroomish lv5, Zigzagoon lv4

great diary!
can't wait to pick up my new GBA SP and grab a copy of ruby or sapphire! (is the only difference the type of pokemon you get?)
thanks for posting the journal! keep it up!
Great idea with the onlie poke' diary. Although my comment is more of a question. For some reason my wurmple evolved into a silkoon instead of a cascoon. Then the silkoon evovled into a beautifly. Beautifly is an awesome pokemon and he's still in my party. I think it may be more along the type of butterfree-like pokemon you desired. I was just wondering if you heard how to affect the evolution of wurmple to decide wether you get a silkoon or a cascoon. Feel free to e-mail me back if you get any info on this strange double evolution theory.
I received an email a couple days ago (thanks, Martin!) that said that you get a Cascoon/Dustox if your Wurmple evolves at night... so I guess you go Silcoon/Beautifly if it evolves at day. Makes sense I suppose. Rats! I think I would have preferred the Beautifly! Have to go back and train up another stupid Wurmple...
Instead of getting a Wurmple all over again, just go to the woods just above the old seadog's cottage. They seem to be full of Cascoons and Silcoon. Only problem is that they only seem to use Harden... so maybe that's all they have?
I've been doing fine in my Pokemon Sapphire game, Unlike my sister, who doesn't even have her first badge! I have 7 badges, and I can't make through that friggin ice maze Wallice has in his gym. I have a Lv. 45 Blaziken, Lv. 46 Kyogre, Lv. 41 Swampert, Lv. 34 Grovyle, Lv. 40 Altaria, and a Lv. 37 Manectric.
Hey every1 if u have the time check out my website.
Hey it's me again. Thanx for explaining the cascoon-silkoon evolution thing. I figured it was something like that and I had them both before I came back and read the new post. Now all I need to find out is how to get an azurill. I painstakingly hunted and captured a male and female marril only to have them hatch an egg with another marril in it!!!???!!! Anyone with advice on making babies feel free to help me out. Pokemon babies that is, not the human kind. : )
O.k. nevermind that last post I made. I found a really good F.A.Q. site and it said I have to give my male marril some tidal herb to sucessfully make an azurill egg. Since you all are telling what pokemon you're using so will I. And beforehand I would like to state that no Joe I am not copying you. I was impressed with the similarities of our party and thats why I keep coming back to your site. What else can I say but you have good taste!!!! Poocheyna lv 17, Sableye lv.17, Minun lv 19, Plusle lv 19, Grovyle lv. 21, Swellow lv 22. Thats all I gotta say for now. I'll probably check back in tommorrow.
Awesome party, BLACK! Let me know if you find the Minun/Plusle team to be worthwhile. My initial feeling on them is that they're built as a 2-on-2 battle example and not much else. And I haven't even gotten around to getting pokemon to mate at the day care center. I dropped a nincada off a couple days ago and completely forgot about the place.
BLACK is back, and I've totally hit a wall. I can't beat the electric gym leader Wattson at all. I spend all my poke' money on super potions and paralyz heals and no matter what I do it's not enough. Any strategies to help me out would be cool since our parties are almost identical. I've even decided to try to switch up my party a bit and level up a nincada since it's the only ground type I've found so far. I'm almost to the point where I'm so frustrated that I wanna start my game over again and pick a Torchic, since fire works well against magnemite/magneton. I really don't wanna start over again cause my pokedex is coming along so nicely. I haven't really come across a new pokemon I haven't caught yet in the past couple of days. As for my plusle minun combo, it seems to be o.k. although I was hoping there'd be alot more 2 on 2 battles to use them in. I figured the key to their co-op battling is the helping hand move. The thing is you have to use the helping hand move on your own guy!!!! Whenever you want to do the move and you pick witch pokemon to do it on, move the blinking cursor over to your other pokemon and use it on it. I have yet to try this in the game, but I can't wait to see if it powers up the others moves all that much. Let me know if you get a chance to try this and how it went.
I think you might want to level up a bit more. My party was all low 20s (except Minun and Plusle) when I went against Wattson. As I recall, it went something like this: Mightyena puts out the Magnetite with 2-3 Rock Smash attacks, I'd let him Bite the Voltorb down and quick switch in the Taillow to take the Voltorb's stupid Self-Destruct. The Magneton was the big problem, as he kept eating Super Potions. I'd let Sableye, Grovyle and Mightyena do their thing against him, and switch in the Plusle or the Minun when I needed to heal/de-paralyze any of my big three.
The big trick is making it so Wattson can't use his Super Potions... this means gauging your hits so that you kill him instead of letting him with a little red left, because he will always Super Potion on that red. I used midlevel attacks like Absorb and Quick Attack, and then brought out the Rock Smash to finish the Magneton. It wasn't easy for this particular party, and it took several attempts for me to get it done!
Thanx for the tips. I haven't gotten to try it yet cause I've been out shopping all day. I forgot about the indespensible rock smash move. that should help out alot. I'm getting sick of trying to level up in the same old patches of grass in the area I'm stuck in. Those Gulpins are really getting under my skin. I'm gonna try to beat Wattson a few more times and hopefully won't have to start my game over. Thanx again, and I'll talk to ya later
Hey Joe. I've leveled up and am going to take on Wattson again after I pick up my brother from work. I just wanted to tell you, you may wanna pick up that nincada from the day care before it hits level 20. I was raising one to fight Wattson cause it's a ground type and I only had it and Grovyle, Sableye, and Mightyena in my party and when it evovled at lv 20 it turned into a flying bug type and there was a totally new ghost bug type in my party!!!! It sucks that I no longer have a strong ground type but I got a whole new pokemon for doing nothing but evovling one I already had. Plus the evovled form. Pretty cool huh?? I think an evolution hatching a new pokemon was a sweet hidden idea and a killer wqay to help fill out my pokedex
That Nincada evolution thing is crazy but true. Basically, Nincada splits into two pokemon: a Ninjask and a Shedinja. The Shedinja is the "surprise" pokemon. It (it is sexless) is types bug and ghost, has the attacks Leech Life, Sand-Attack, Fury Swipes, and Mind Reader. It also has the Wonder Guard ability for "super effective" attacks. Mine appeared at the same level as my Ninjask. The weird thing is that the Shedinja has 1 HP.
I'm making alot of progress in my sapphire game. I've switched up my party alot cause I'm trying to evovle alot of pokemon with the cooler looking evolutions. I got the surf hm and have added a level 31 marril who I lovingly nicknamed marijuana. I evolved my grovyle to a lv 39 sceptile, sableye is at lv 30, and I have a swablu at lv 26, vigoroth just evolved and is still at lv 18. I'm awaiting the return of my claw fossil from the regeneration at devon corp. so thats why theres a space in my party. I've got 5 badges and my pokedex is at 58 with 37:47 game hours played. I think electrike wil be my next evolution followed by ralts. So how's everybody else doing???
Hi Joe. I love your Sapphire diary. I went crazy and bought both Sapphire and Ruby, as well as the new GBA SP and Pokemon 4Ever movie. Nuts, huh! Right now I am playing Ruby. I was a little disappointed at first because the game seemed to lose some of the neat features of Crystal, but I'm liking it now. My starting line-up is: Phoenix (Combusken), Shitake (Breloom), Sparkle (Manectric), Skillet, (Aron), Sympathy (Gardevoir), and Gulliver (Pelipper) all level 31. So far, nothing has stopped them or given them much trouble (including Wattson), they're a great team. My Manectric has won Normal and Super Rank Cool Ribbons. I am at Fallarbor Town right now and spent the last 6 hours gathering ash to buy a desk. Do you know how the secret hideouts work yet?
WHERE DO YOU FIND THE POKe Block case? I have searched and searched with no luck!
Hey guys. I haven't checked in here for awhile cause I've been busy. I made it pretty far and have captured Kyogre. I went nuts catching pokemon and my pokedex is now at 81. I haven't made a secret base yet and am kinda curious about it. My sceptile won a toughness ribbon. As far as the pokeblock case goes some girl gives it to you but it was sooo far back in my game I can't really remember where. I was wondering if any one had info on how to capture a relicanth. I have only ran into it once and wasted all my pokeballs on it to no avail. I'm searching the same undersea area where I spotted it the first time and can only come across clampearls and chinchous. If anyone has or can find more specific info on how to get relicanth like the time of day or patch of grass where it's best to find one please make a post. My party is manectric lv 31 (I'm raising him to take on wallace) Aronith lv 36 wialmer lv 23 sceptile lv 43 altaria lv 37 and kyorge lv 45. Most pokemon are in my party strictly to level up and evolve though.
O.k. nevermiond about relicanth in that last post. I got him. My advice to anyone else trying to get him is HAVE PATIENCE!!!! He will eventually get his own hp down low enough to get him in the ball if you keep letting him use take down. Just be sure to have a strong enough pokemon or plenty of potions on hand to withstand the assault.
Kerry, you can find the Pokeblock Case by talking to the little girl in the Pokemon Contest Hall in Slateport City. Good Luck!
hey guys! im pretty far in my game. My current team is Absol, kyogre, salamence, breloom, and castform who happens to be a really good combo with kyogre. The one problem im having with my game is that i cant seem to get shedinja. No matter what i do my nincada keeps evolving in a ninjask even when i have fewer than 5 guys with me. Help
6 hours gathering ash, Ruby?!?! Outstanding dedication. I collected enough for a sad little blue flute, and I choked Tang through my nose when I saw how much ash you need for the glass furniture. I did use Secret Power to make a base... mine is in that southern area below the Rusturf Tunnel. Of course, it has nothing in it yet, since my only furniture is two dolls. What's the best way to get new furniture, other than collecting ash? Where's Tom Nook when you need him...
Who's Tom Nook? (I'm blonde, duh!) Anyway, it looks like you can buy furniture in Fortee City, just past Route 119. Bring your billfold with you unless you like the ugly stuff, cause it ain't cheap! Oh, Matt, after doing a little research, I found that when Nincada evolves, you not only have to have an extra place for it, you have to have a Poke Ball. It specifies Poke Ball, so maybe the Great Ball and Ultra Ball won't work. It's worth a try!
Ruby you rock! Thanks so much for the tips. I think i just got a little confused because nincada evolves in ninjask anyway and then the computer or something gives you shedinja. What do you guys think is the toughest fire guy to have in the game? Im not sure if its even worth it but im open for suggestions.
ok here is my problem im at the part in the game where you have to go to the weather place and every time i get there i run into someone and all of my pokemon faint including my grovyle...is there any other faster way to level up my pokemon ???
disregard what i said last my new problem is exactly the same but its with the fortree city gym leader instead of the weather institute
I have finally got all eight badges and am currently hunting the legendary Regi's.I already got Regice and am having trouble with the steel one. It seems I don't have enough money to buy all the ultra balls it takes to wear him down. I used my one master ball on Kyogre which was probably a big mistake guessing by how randomly Latias appears in the wild. Has anyone even seen Latias yet??? The walkthrough website I found reccomends using the master ball on Rayquaza. This brings up my next question... has anyone heard or read anything about the cloning code for sapphire/ruby???? The old cloning code is now defunct with the new box system not requiring you to save when changing boxes. I hope there is a cloning code otherwise I'm gonna have to wit till my brother beats ruby to get a groudon for myself. either that or else game shark it. I'm sorry to even go that cheating route but I am a pokedex completeist (except for mew and cerebi so far) As for those of you having trouble with the gym leaders and other foes, take your time and level up. I've found that the caves leading to the elite four are a great place to earn mega experience points as well as catching some kinda high level evolved forms of cool pokemon. I've been spending alot of time there before I started my regi hunt. By the way I'd just like to say that I feel the regi's are the lamest pokemon in sapphire. they surely don't live up to the standard title of legendary pokemon set by the birds and cats of the previous games.
chaos, I think you just need more experience for your pokemon. I just went through the Fortree Gym sub-trainers, and my party is mostly between lv30 and lv33.
where do you get the tm secret power in sapphire ?
You get Secret Power from a guy standing by a tree... near Mt. Chimney or Fallarbor Town, I think. When you talk to him, he specifically mentions Secret Bases and the tree he is next to is the kind you can build a Base in.
thanks joe...i just got all of the eight badges and kyogre im going to get pokemon ruby also so i can get groudon and trade him over to my GBA SP. now i am trying to figure out the dot brail i think it says i have to catch a wailord and a relicanth so iam trying to level up my wailmer to level 40 to evolve into waillord
You're kidding me. You mean that line in the manual about "If you can't read a message, it might be braille!" is actually applicable?!? Craziness. Did you guys use your Master Ball for Kyogre, or is that a waste? I'm right at the big Team Aqua undersea fight myself.
yes i used my master ball to catch the kyogre... allthough i went to this girl in one of the towns and she said that my kyogre does not like me and his eyes run with fury wich is realy weird because we have been through alot of battles and competitions. do you know why,or what i can do ???
this is really weird im trying to get the registeel and i cant figure out the brail...the brail said
with new time,
hope and love,
aim to the sky
in the middle
i was hoping one of you could help me out on that one
chaos, I regrettably have caught all 3 regi's. the registeel you seek is located in the cave alongside route 119 where it is constantly raining. Go left of the entrance to the safari zone until you come to stairs by where a supernerd is standing. Go up the stairs and head north thil you see a cave. Go to the middle of the braille slab in the back of the cave and do the fly hm this will open up the door and you can waste all your ultra balls trying to catch registeel.
thanks trainer black, now do you know how to catch regirock?
Hi guys! I feel like I'm a little behind the times now. I've only just gotten my sixth badge and have just discovered the trainer's eye thing, which is easier done now that I can fly! My starting party are now all level 40-42. My Gardevior (Sympathy) and Manectric (Sparkle) have just gotten their 3rd ribbons and their conditions have all maxed out nearly perfectly on all five points with a little more emphasis on Cool for Sparkle and Smart for Sympathy. So, how come that jerk won't give them a scarf?!?! I finally made a secret base. It's under the bridge by the waterfall on the way to the weather station. That glass desk is huge, it nearly takes up the whole room!
To get Regirock go to Fallarbor Town. go right, until you reach the desert where you found the
fossil. you should find another cave entrance there. go to the middle of
the braille slate. Move to the right twice, and down twice, use strength and a
door leading to Regi-Rock will appear. Doesn't anyone else think the Regi's are lame or is it just me???
thanks black, actually i think they are "lame" also but i am on a quest to "catch em all" as ash would say
Anybody know where you find the Shoal Salt? It's easy to find the Shoal Shells, but I've been getting lost in that stupid cave. Is the Salt just inside that cave somewhere?
hey i beat the elite four with my first try but the funny thing is, is that all my pokemon were at level 40-46
joe dont feel bad i cant find the shoal shell either
Hey everybody. I'm not sure about this as I have yet to find the shoal salt myself, but my theory is that there is a tide in the game (although i have yet to see any evidence of it) and the shoal salt is visible during one tide (i.e. high) and the shoal shells must be obtainable during the opposite tide (i.e. low) Like I said I have seen no evidence of this in my game, but heard or read about it somewhere. Chaos I'm glad I could help you get those regi's. Perhaps "lame" is too light of a word for them and should be replaced with something along the lines of hella-gay! They do not even come close to measuring up to the coolness of the legendary birds or cats. And congratulations on beating the elite four on your first try. I'd like to hear more details about your battle like which pokemon you used and did you need alot of revives or potions????? I plan on taking on their challenge soon, maybe even tonight and my pokemon are at level 50 or 52. Also one last thing, again has anyone heard anything about the cloning codes for sapphire or ruby??? I feel like I wasted my time training my pokemon on my gold game during the days prior to sapphire coming out since there is no way I know of yet to transfer them between games. That really bums me out that you can't have a charizard or mewtwo or some of my other favorites in the new advanced games.
Hey! Black's right about the Shoal Cave tides. Shoal Salt is found at low tide and Shoal Shells are found at high tide and there seems to be about 6 hours in between tides.
Well, I caught Groudon. I used 5 ultra balls and then tried the timer ball - and it worked! I can't seem to get past the first room in the Sootopolis Gym though, the ice floor keeps breaking and the stairway won't appear. Any suggestions?
hey guys. I beat the elite four, although it took me 3 tries and i had to sell my big pearl and red sand or whatever it was to buy enough revives and hyper potions. Even though my pokemon were levels 50 and 52 (3 pokemon each level)I still had a bit of trouble. but my patience paid off in the end. Ruby you have to walk on the ice one square at a time and cover all the squares to make the stairs appear. The tricky part is walking on each square only once and ending up infront of the stairway when youre done. it takes some planning and a little trial and error but it is possible. the only thing i really wanna do now is fill out my pokedex. does anyone have any clue on how to find a feebass????
I know they're on route 119 or whatever, and i read somewhere that there is only one "tile" for a feebass in each game. I have no idea what that means or how to figure out where on route 119 my feebass "tile" is. any info on this would be cool
Thanks Black! The tip worked and I got my eighth badge. I decided to rearrange my starting party before I try the elite four so now I'm working on leveling everyone up. I have Groudon, Orca (Wailord), Phoenix (Blaziken), Sparkle (Manectric), Sympathy (Gardevoir), and Chikita (Tropius), all at level 50. To catch Feebas, go to the Weather Institute, cross the bridge, turn right and go down to the river's edge. Use surf and to the first little place you can get out of the water (your right). I caught eight Feebas here, I was trying to catch one that had the right nature to lean it towards dry (Beauty) type Pokeblocks. Look for one with a mild, modest, quiet or rash nature. Mine won all four beauty contests but I guess it didn't win with a high enough score because it didn't evolve into Milotic. I guess I have to keep on trying. Good luck! By the way, I don't know what a "tile" is either.
hey ruby thats cool i helped ya. I haven't tried fishing for feebass yet but thanx in advance for the tip. Joe to evolve a golbat into crobat is a friendly evolution. You gotta be real nice to the golbat by giving it items it likes and not letting it faint and stuff.
Bleah. Who wants to be nice to a Golbat? I think switch him out and try to level up an Aron. That probably evolves into something cool, right?
Hi Joe! I had an Aron, he leveled up to Lairon and then Aggron. Real cool looking, kind of like a Rhydon with heavy armor and spots. The neat thing is he has a rock head and can use the move "take down" without the recoil. I have him up to level 50 but traded him for Groudon.
I luff your Poke diary! ^_^ It's far more exiting then my chronicles lol!
Wurmple is supposed to become Beautifly by day as a silcoon, or Dustox (UGLY!) by night, through cascoon. I made the fatal mistake of leveling up my wurmple at night and accidentaly making it a Dustox, and it's been boxed ever since.
I was really dissapointed when my Grovyle evolved too (a japanese pokedex I found on the internet showed Treeko's fully evolved form as Rayquaza- I've been hoodwinked! :[)
My main team at the moment is chock full of my fav type, dragons: 2 flygons (L48 and L50), Salamence L51, Blaziken L57, Rayquaza L70 (caught it that way- save your masterball for either this or Latios\Latias! O_o) and Milotic L56. (I have a secondary team that includes a L45 Absol!)
I play animal crossing too, but with 1.2mil in the bank I just don't see the point in playing anymore...exept to catch those arapimas, of course! ;)
Oh, (forgot to add this to my first comment ^.^) Feebas is EXTREMELY HARD to catch. Every game, when you start, has 'Feebas tiles' that are picked randomly. In the big river in Route 119, there will be one to six 'tiles' feebas can be found in. Even when you discover these tiles, it will still not be guaranteed there (you have to use a super rod) I spent 3 hours fishing trying to get one, then gave up and Gamesharked one.
BTW, to make it evolve into Milotic, you have to max out it's beauty condition through pokeblocks.
Why is everyone so bonkers about Aggron? Granted, it looks REALLY cool, but to be blunt, it stinks. It's special defence is terrible, it's attack leaves to be desired, and it's types (Steel and dark) leave it vunerable to too many things. If you want a good steel type on your team, I advise Skarmory (found rarley, on Rt.113)
Also, does anyone know how to make your pokemon delighted? Mine seem to be okay with me, but I like to spoil my pokies and want them to be happy like the ones in crystal were ^.^
I have had no luck finding any of my feebass tiles. Ruby, it must be different in sapphire than in your game. Does anyone know if you can just run into feebass while surfing on your pokemons back or do you have to use the super rod always???? I'm so damned tired of fighting carvanas it's not even funny anymore. I caught a lairon in the victory road cave cause i figured aron would take forever to level up, which i was right about. I'll eventually evolve the lairon though but I'm not all "bonkers" about it. I'm screwed cause I used my masterball on kyogre. Unless theres another one hidden in the game somewhere. I'm gonna have a hell of a time catching rayquaza.
amen to that master black ... i used my master ball also so im going to get a gameshark and get more like that. there is also a game shark code that gets you all of the pokemon and says you beat all of the trainers possible...but im not going to use it because i think it is fun and exiting to battle and catch on your own
I bought a game shark before sapphire came out specifically to get mew but then i realized you can't use a game boy advance game shark on a game boy color game. so thinking that i got ripped off cause there were no signs of any sapphire game shark codes at the time i took it back to the store and then a few days later sapphire was released and a few more days after that the codes started popping up. now you'd think i could just go buy it again right... WRONG! i can't find one anywhere now. i guess i'm just doomed not to catch them all :(
More on the Feebas Conquest! I read on FAQ website that the location of the Feebas tiles change as the expression in Dewford changes so I can't find my tile anymore either. I do have a few but I'm having trouble getting them to evolve. The one I'm working on now has maxed out in beauty, received a blue scarf from the dude in Slateport, won all four contests, and got it's picture painted and hung in the Lilycove City's museum - and STILL hasn't evolved! What did I do wrong?
Never mind, I figured it out. You have to bring it up one level first. Looks cool!
Does anybody have any hints for getting the audience to like your entrant in the contests? I keep losing in the Master Rank because the audience hates me. If I enter the same pokemon in a lower rank, they love me, and I can often win on audience alone.
Hi Joe! I had the same problem so started experimenting and it seems to make the audience like you in the Master Rank Contest, you need to make sure you max out with pokeblocks in one of the five categories. And it doesn't hurt to have that dude in Slateport give you a scarf. If you win with a really high score, an artist will paint a picture of your pokemon and it will hang in the Lilycove Museum. Have you taken on the elite four yet?
Joe, here's a FAQ site I found that has all you ever wanted to know about Feebas. http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ gbadvance/file/pokemon_rs_feebas_milotic.txt Hope that helps.
hey guys, my game boy advance sp was dropped!!! and my sapphire game was in it. for some reason it started over im really p****d off because i just beat a whole bunch of battle tower trainers and was on the verge of catching the legendary raquazza...but now i have a torchic
I can't believe this. I'm at the ELite Four and I haven't even sen the Master Ball yet. I already caught Kyogre (good thing the Master Ball isn't wasted) and I also need to know where to find Rayquaza.
valek, the legendary raquazza is found ontop of the sky piller (thanks to my stupid gba sp i wont be getting him for a while)...but to get there you will need a pokemon that knows surf and a mach bike
in further news......howcome kyogre doesnt have a gender?
chaos, I'm sorry to hear about your tragic loss! I began the game with Torchic and as long as you pick up a Wingull and a Shroomish, you should have all bases covered. And I don't think any of the Legendaries had a gender, did they? I know they're not eggmaker at all. Valek, I think the Masterball was found in New Mauville, when you go to shut off that master switch for the dude in Mauville.
THe legendaries don't have genders so that you can't breed them (genderless means not even Ditto will get any action from them). This way, they're trying to prevent the breeding of super-armies of legendaries.
well i cought a magikarp and after a long time of switching him out he evolved into a garados...my party is a level 29 cumbusken, level 24 shroomish and a level 26 garados
the master ball is found in the team aqua or team magma hideout...thier hideout is right bye lilycove
chaos, you are right, I stand corrected! How is your new team coming? I'm just trying to win all five contests well enough now to get a painting in the Lilycove Museum. It's not easy! I'm traveling to Switzerland on Tuesday so I guess I won't be able to play too much, because I won't be able to recharge my GBA SP.
ruby,my game is coming along greatly im almost at the 7th gym leader...and my pokemon are great the team of gyrados and blaziken is a perfect match they make up for each others disadvantages
I know how you feel chaos, my stepsister erased by Blue game, which I had spent like 200 hours working on. I was so mad, and since then, I haven't had the heart to restart Blue again with all the new games out. I got my Sapphire game maybe about a month ago. I'm so happy that there's a new version, I've done everything possible on my silver version including leveling up my two favorite pokemon to level 100, without the use of any special methods. I was so proud of my self. The weird thing I've noticed is that I seem to become very attached to about 2 pokemon in each game, and no others. Incidentally, I raise those 2's levels as high as I can and love them with all my heart. They also usually end up being Psychic and Dark types. In silver it was Umbreon and Espeon (I've always had a thing for the Eevee evolutions) and in Sapphire it's Absol and Chimecho. I absolutely adore these two. Absol totally looks like it could have been evolved from Eevee and Chimecho is this cute little ghost like creature I caught at the top of Mt. Pyre. I've played the game now for 42 hours and 45 minutes and they're both at level 70. I've beaten the Elite Four a number of times and have cute down my usage of items to about 2 revives and 4 hyper potions, which I consider to be pretty good considering I'm used to 1 hit KO's in my Silver game. I guess I just kinda became a little spoiled. Right now I'm trying to level up Absol and Chimecho to level 100 each so that I can enter them into the whole Battle Tower thing. I need to find a third pokemon too. If anyone has any suggestions, I badly need some advice. Thanks.
Advice for a third to max out? Of course. Charizard, Articuno, Alakazam, all of those are good choices. I have them each at level 100 (working on Mewtwo now) and they're awesome. ou can give that a shot if ya want.
well there is a couple of good thing from my game starting over...like not wasteing my masterball on kyogre i tried and i finally cought him/her with a netball.now im going to beat the elite four to go to th sky piller and catch the legendary most powerful pokemon in the game RaQuAzAa
Hello all. Joe.. sounds like you've been pretty busy lately, and also neglecting your sapphire game. Oh well, I guess life goes on outside of video games. I was just wondering where on Mt. pyre you find Chimecho. I've been scouring around there for one for the past 2 nights and haven't even seen one. Is it inside the tower or on the mountain it's self??? I still have had no luck with Feebass. Although I haven't tried the method used in that link Ruby posted. I've been too busy hunting Chimecho to fish for Feebass. I never really wanted a Chimecho till it was mentioned on this page and I realized I hadn't caught one yet. Thats about all thats new on my game since I've also kinda been neglecting my game.
I know how you feel, it took me about a week to catch my Chimecho, but I finally figured out how. Okay, you know where the couple who you talk to you about either the blue or the red orb. Well, go to where they are at the summit of Mt. Pyre, then, if you walk around to the left and right of them, you can find some extemely small patches of grass. Then if you spend a lot of time walking around in them Chimecho will appear! It takes a lot of patience, but it's worth it in the end.
Hey guess what! I got Latios! I was just wandering around on route 110 and there it was. I was so excited that I used my masterball. I hope that wasn't a screw-up, although I have heard of people getting Raquaza without it. And my choice for a third to level up is Gardevoir, Spoink is kind of cute too.
Okay, I know this may seem weird, but does anyone think that you're rival in Pokemon Sapphire is lame to those in previous versions? I started playing the game as a boy, and named myself Satoshi (Ash's japanese name) and I was completely expecting some cool badass rival that I could name Shigeru (Gary's japanese name). Instead I got a wimpy girl who tries to help me out during the game. What the hell is up with that? I didn't even get to name her anything too, plus her name isn't japanese which makes me really mad, cause I'm obsessed with Japan. I don't know if you choose to play as the girl in the beginning if it's any different, but I really hate that they messed that part of my game up. Rival battles are only fun when you dislike your opponent and they dislike you in return, not when they want to be friends.
Congratulations on your catch!!! Oh, and Latios is probably the best pokemon to use your master ball on, because you have no way to prepare for the battle before hand. With Raquaza you can at least stock up on like a million ultra balls before hand do the whole save right before battle and restart until you manage catch him.
congrats ruby...thankyou ruby and isshi youve opened up my eyes and ive seen that i shouldnt jump the gun and waste my master ball on raquazaa and save it for a latias
Isshi, thanks for the tips on catching chimecho. I plan on trying that out after i get done writing this. Gee I wish I still had a masterball. I don't think I'm gonna start my gave over for it just yet though.
Hey gang! I have been negelecting Sapphire, mainly because I had a tough time with Wally at the end of Victory Road. So I kinda retreated to do more berry runs and contests. But I did finally beat him and now I'm about to tackle the Elite Four. Should I have found the Regis (or at least one of them) by now? Or maybe that's a sidequest for after the League. Nice work getting a Latios, Ruby! How do you know when it's around... just pops up in a random battle?
Oh, and about the rival thing. I was surprised too to see that the time-honored Pokemon Rival thing had become a Pokemon Friend thing. Interestingly, I find battles with her much less stressful than the battles with past games' rivals... not because she's any less powerful than the enemy rivals, but just because she's presented as an easy-going friend instead of a mean, nasty brat. At least Nintendo changed up the gameplan there a little, though. There is so much about Ruby/Sapphire that is nearly identical to every other game (and a lot of downgrades from Gold/Silver/Crystal), so it's nice to have a couple differences now and then!
Joe, don't worry about not having caught the Regi's yet. I've beaten the elite four a number of times and I still haven't gotten around to it. It'd be a whole lot more fun if they were cool looking like birds and cats of the previous pokemon games. It's kinda sad, but I find myself discriminating against those pokemon who aren't as pretty on the outside as others. I just always go for the cute ones. Oh, and thanks Ruby, I've decided to take suggestion of Gardevoir as the third pokemon for my team. Now all I have to do is catch a Ralts. So far no luck, but I've only been looking for about 10 minutes.
Yay! I caught my Ralts. Now all I have to do is get him up from level 4 to level about level 70 (the current level of my other favorite pokemon) This may take a while.
Welcome back Joe! The Latios just popped up - like Suicune and the others did in the wild in Gold and Silver. I don't have the Regis yet either. I tried for Regice before I went to the Elite Four but got discouraged and gave up after 28 Ultra Balls and 15 Timer Balls. Turned out I didn't need it anyway. Manectric did just fine. I'm just leveling up now, collecting berries and entering contests. I leave at noon today for my trip and won't be back until the 15th. Isshi, I hope you like Gardevoir. If you get one with the right personality, it does very well in the smart contests too.
You know what I just realized, the name Gardevoir is French. It's a combination of two verbs. Garder : to guard, and voir: to see. I totally should have seen it considering I take French as well as Japanese at my school. Just goes to show how much a actually pay attention in my classes.
well i just cought my raquaza (without using my master ball)and since it doesnt have a gender i gave it one hence the nickname lady luck
now im on a search for latias... last night i spent 3 hours looking for it but no luck
isshi good luck with your gardevoir
oh and by the way i have some more name anagrams
ekans backwords is snake and arbok backwords is kobra
Chaos, good look on finding Latias, I've spent about 5 hours so far in random places training and waiting for it to appear. Congratulations on catching Raquaza without using your master ball! My problem is that I can't seem to navigate using the Mach bike well enough to even get up the tower. What can I say, I've used the Acro bike the whole time because it's easier for me. I'll keep trying after I finish leveling up Absol, Chimecho, and Gardevoir, I really want to be able to participate in the battle tower. So far their levels are as stands:
Absol : 74
Chimecho : 70
Gardevoir : 34
I really need to get a move on if I'm gonna accomplish my goal soon. I'm hoping that it'll only take about a month or so, it all depends on what happens in my life. I stopped playing Silver for about 3 months when my friend tried to commit suicide. I seriously hope nothing like that happens ever again.
Thanks again to Ruby for recommending Gardevoir, I've grown to love him so much!
Joe, congratulations on beating the Elite Four. Feels pretty good doesn't it? I had a pretty awful day today so I doubt I'll be doing much more than playing on my game tonight. Hopefully I can add to my pokedex and level up Gardevoir.
joe since you you beat the elite four i dont know if you know this or not but go to stevens house in mossdeep city there you will find a pokeball.
inside there is a pokemon, beldum the 1st evoulution of metagross
Congrats to Joe on beating the Elite Four!!! Thanks to Isshi for helping me finally catch a Chimecho. Congrats to Ruby on her Latios find. and thanks to Chaos for reminding me about the Beldum waiting for me at Stevens house. I knew about this but I just forgot until I read that last post. Now if I could just manage to find the patience to fish up a Feebass.I have also been kind of negelecting my Sapphire game lately, but thats cause I almost have Windwaker beat, and I just opened up the figure gallery. (man, making those figures is addicting) Also I'm sorry if I forgot to mention anyone who has helped me out or accomplished something worthy of noting recently, but I think I got everyone covered.
Thanks for the tip on the Beldum. I probably would NEVER have wandered back into that house otherwise! Now I have a cute li'l Beldum holding the EXP.SHARE waiting for his time to shine. Here's some questions for you guys about more stuff I may have missed: what is the point of Pacifidlog? Is it just a rest stop if you're taking the long swim across the bottom of the map? And does the rocket launching center in Mossdeep have any function as well? Seems odd to have giant buildings/towns with little or no purpose...
Yeah, Pacifidlog is just kinda there. The only things you can really do there is get either TM 27, Return, or TM 21, Frustration (You can come back each week) and visit the old man who'll tell you if he can see the mysterious Mirage Island. Otherwise, it's pretty pointless to go visit.
At the moment, I'm still working on leveling up for the battle tower. Gardevoir's only at level 49, and Absol and Chimecho have only made it to 75 and 72. It's boring work.
I've been having a lot more fun with the status compettions. I'm going for a master rank in the cute section with my Skitty, but I haven't made it yet. Hopefully it'll be soon.
Cool diary. I am currently obsessed with my game, and I also have a winning team too! ^_^
1) Sceptile
2) Hariyama
3) Mighthyena
4) Gardevoir
5) Swellow
6) Kyogre
Those guys are quite strong once you put 'em above level 46.
P.S. did you guys know there's already a Sapphire/Ruby Walkthrough?? Just bought one today.
I always saw Pacifidlog as a rest stop in case you wanted to surf from Mossdeep to to Slateport and fight the eight routes of trainers along the way. I'm halfway through doing that as training anyway, and it's really handy since I don't have to bring a flier to heal.
If anyone cares, I just beat Wallace and am starting training for Victory Road. My team is:
Gardevoir L41 + Quick Claw
Altaria L41 + Soft Sand*
Manectric L41 + King's Rock**
Blaziken L43 + Charcoal
Kyogre L45 + Mystic Water
In the sixth slot, either an HM servant or Sableye L41 + nothing yet. Like Joe, I love the little thing.
Movesets not supplied because I've used exactly one TM so far, and that will be rectified so imminently that it's not worth the trouble to supply the crappy natural sets.
*He (yes, it's a male :/) knows Earthquake, and I haven't gotten around to beating the Dragon Tamer guy five times for the Dragon Scale. I think the only way to get it otherwise is to use Thief/Covet or catch a wild Altaria, and they're only in the Sky Pillar, where I can't get yet. (I don't believe it works for Swablus.)
**Again, haven't done enough in New Mauville to get the Magnet. Also, I've never used the King's Rock, and it's just intriguing enough that I want to test drive it.
OK, as for the King's Rock, consider it a bust. Manectric would have benefitted from it if not for the unfortunate fact that *every single one* of his moves have side effects, something I forgot because I never seem to pull them. Back to New Mauville I guess.
It seems like none of my guys have the right combination of good Speed and no-side-effect moves to take advantage of KR. Altaria's Earthquake comes close (Dragonbreath has a chance to paralyze), but it's a relatively punchless move without the Soft Sand, and he can't hold two items.
A shame. I really wanted to show up that kid who thought I was weird for wanting his King's Rock.
Another correction. Apparently this walkthrough erred in saying that the Magnet could be found in New Mauville. In fact, it is given to you when you beat the Trick House for the sixth time. I only have four wins so far though. Smeg.
Nothing is finer than a team well-trained team at level 46+. Until you hit the battle tower, that is.
Just some far reaching ideas here, but I'm not going to let the Diary die just because I beat the League Champion. You can expect some Tower commentary coming, as well as talk about the new Pokemon games once they come out. Pinball Ruby/Sapphire will likely be worth an update, as well as Colosseum and Box. Maybe even Pokemon Channel... although it seems to wrong to reinvent the simplistic Hey You Pikachu for the GameCube, while ignorin Pokemon Snap.
By the way, has everybody heard of the Eon Ticket? It's an eCard they gave away at E3. When you scan it (using the whole unlikely eReader + 2 GBAs + cable setup) it lets you travel to another island, where you can catch the opposite of your Latias or Latios. Right now, nobody knows if Nintendo will distribute the Eon Ticket beyond E3, but I'd bet on that card being packed in a future issue of Nintendo Power. I hope, because I don't feel like paying $20 or higher for one on eBay.
"Nothing is finer than a [well-trained team] at level 46+"... except a well-trained team that's higher. After a few hours of training today my guys are 45, 46, 47, 47, 48 and 50, but I'm not going to take on the Elite until everybody's 50+.
Afer all, I'd really rather not die to Meteor Mash in one hit all the time. Especially since my Kyogre has crappy IVs. (I caught him without the Master Ball and so couldn't be bothered to go through it again.)
A note on Kyogre: if my calculations are correct, a Kyogre with Drizzle and Mystic Water (like mine) using Surf will do a base damage of about 235. That and its ridiculous special attack (even though it's mediocre within the species) certainly explains why everything in Victory Road seems to die to it.
Took a lot longer than I thought (training level 50+ guys is hard when the wild and trained Pokemon you have access to usually don't top level 40) but I finally have
Level 50 Manectric
Level 50 Sableye
Level 52 Altaria
Level 52 Gardevoir
Level 54 Kyogre
Level 54 Blaziken
Hopefully that will do the job. I plan to make an attempt on the Elite later today, stay tuned.
Or not. Whatever.
Hey, I thought this was supposed to be *hard*. It took about 45 minutes. I downed, like, 80% of all the Pokémon I saw in one hit.
One humorous sequence came when Kyogre was fighting Metagross, after he'd been Full Restored. Kyogre got off a Surf and sent Metagross to red. Metagross was Full Restored again. This repeated until Steven ran out of Full Restores, and I won forthwith.
He used more Full Restores in that sequence (5) then I did (3). And not one of the three was actually needed to keep anybody from fainting, they were all insurance.
It was harder to train my guys up than to beat the E4. Maybe that's why. Maybe they wanted to give you a choice: work your butt off beating the E4 and have training be easy, or easily beat the E4 and have training be hard?
Hey, I'm back! Switzerland looks nothing like Iowa, it was beautiful! But the only chance I got to play Ruby was on the plane. Congratulations on beating the Elite Four Joe and Traz! I used a fire-type against Metagross at the same level and it was a one-hit wonder. Now I am working on catching the Regis and winning the contests well enough to get paintings in the Lilycove Museum. I just caught Regirock last night. Groudon just won the tough contest, Boink the Spoink won the cute contest and Cinderella the Feebas won the beauty contest. I discovered that if the other three contestants get alot more hearts than mine, I shut off the game and try again until the contestants are at a more competitive level. That might be cheating, but, hey, works for me! Rayquaza looks to be a likely candidate for the cool contest so I'm working on catching it now. I'm having a little trouble manuevering the mach bike though.
Thanks. I'm starting the sidequests (caught a Relicanth today) but what I really want to do is experiment in training your Pokemon in an optimal way, using Effort Values and stuff like that.
After some restarts I got a Beldum with a Lonely nature (Attack up, Defense down) and an Attack IV around 24-28. I slapped the Exp Share on it and am killing nothing but Shuppets. That's supposed to raise his attack. He's a Metang and at Level 22 now and his attack seems to be very slowly starting to stand out (currently stands at 52).
If his attack ends up rocking the house, I'll name him "Teru-Sama", throw him in the Battle Tower and see what happens.
Guest what?!?! I just caught Rayquaza - just using 4 ultra balls! How weird is that? I'm sooo excited that I can't sit still!!!!
What was Rayquaza's health/status effects? Sleep makes anything easier to catch.
I *could* have gone and caught Rayquaza today, BTW-- got through the cracks so I could do a bit of training-- but I didn't. My Pokemon are barely changed from when I beat the Elite Four since I'm focusing on sidequests.
One of those is the Regis. After figuring out fishing (took me long enough) I got a Wailmer, which I evolved into Wailord. Then I unlocked the Regis and caught them. Regice was easy, Regirock would have been if I hadn't accidentally paralyzed it with Dragonbreath (preventing sleep), but by the time I got to Registeel I was not only out of money but also rather low on balls (22 left).
I actually caught it on the first try with a Timer Ball, but restarted because I don't know how to get more. (Can someone help me?) After several restarts (the other ones needed none except the times I accidentally killed them), I finally got him. Incidentally I noticed that Regice has outstanding Special Defense, Regirock outstanding Defense, and Registeel is split between Defense and Special Defense.
I'm also still raising up Teru-Sama. The engineered Metang is now level 29 and has an attack of 71. I theorize that his attack is going up more per level as he gets older due to the fact that he needs to beat more and more Shuppets to gain a level, and the Shuppets give the same amount of stat EXP (one in Attack per Shuppet).
Hi Traz, here's the low down on my Rayquaza: it's ability is Air Lock, Level 70, HP - 244, speed - 155, attack - 231, defense - 149, special attack - 232, special defense - 148, and it has a Bashful nature. I named it Sky High (because the Pokedex called it the Sky High Pokemon - original huh!)
Here's the play by play. I used Sparkle's, my level 70 Manectric, Thunderbolt and Shock Wave (1 each) to bring it's HP way down, in the meantime I constantly had to use hyper potions to keep Sparkle alive from it's Outrage attacks, then it would use Rest. This sequence kept up for awhile, then the fourth time I threw an ultra ball at it - I got it!
If you want more timer balls, they can be purchased at the Rustboro City Pokemon Mart for 1,000.
"If you want more timer balls, they can be purchased at the Rustboro City Pokemon Mart for 1,000."
I have heard this claimed in many places. Gameboykid14's "Poke-Ball FAQ" and Wraith10's list of balls are some of them. (Both sources also claim that the Repeat Ball can be bought there for same price.)
However, when I tried to buy it, I didn't see the Timer Ball or Repeat Ball. Paradisio's walkthrough lists as a note, (not available until given to you by man you saved). Searching the same walkthrough I found under Rusturf Tunnel, "Also near the Rustboro cave the man you saved earlier should give you a repeat ball. After this you can buy
repeater and timer balls in Rustboro."
Off to Rusturf then. The Devon guy with the funny hair is standing there. After talking for too long he gives me a Repeat Ball. I head to the PokeMart and there are Repeat Balls and Timer Balls available.
I buy fifty.
Side notes on Rayquaza: it'd probably be easier to put it to sleep. Success in catching legendaries is the only reason I retained Hypnosis on Gardevoir and is the reason why I am eventually going to go through the pain and suffering of training an unevolved Shroomish to level 54 for Spore. (First I'll try to breed False Swipe on him.)
Also, my Manectric retained Spark over Shock Wave-- it learns it naturally, has slightly better power and has a 30% chance of paralysis, which I thought outweighed the Swift-type behavior.
Of course, now it has Charge in that slot. Just playing around with it to see if it's any good. None of these guys are going to be my human-to-human battle team anyway, so I feel justified in taking small liberties with movesets.
And yeah, that nickname sucks. Meh. I named Future Metagross after a useless GSC item you can only shark in. Sky High can't be *that* much worse. Can it?
Also guys: should I use my Master Ball on Rayquaza or the Lati? Take into consideration that Sableye does know Mean Look and I do plan to train up a Wobbuffet (with its ability that prevents fleeing)...
On the other hand, with the Lati I don't have much of a replay chance.. if Lati pops up and I accidentally KO it, that's it, I don't get it. I could easily save in front of Rayquaza and keep on fighting him..
Another factor to consider is that rumor has it that most of Lati's DVs are set in the factory, and they're straight 0s (see "Latios' IVs?" topic in the Azure Heights boards, "Azure Pokemon Center" forum, azureheights.com/forum).
If I go through a rigorous battle to catch something and it has crappy DVs I'm going to stick with it. I might want to save in front of Rayquaza, chuck the Master Ball, check its stats, repeat ad infinitum..
Sorry I haven't been here in a while. There's been a lot of weird things going on in my life at the moment. I haven't had much time to work on my game, at the moment, I'm filling up my pokedex, and training my 3 favorites for the battle tower. Currently, I've logged 61 hours and 16 minutes. I first beat the elite four after 40 hours and 33 minutes. Still, It's taking forever to level up.

Everything is so difficult. It takes about an hour just to get one level. It's driving me insane. Thanks everyone for listening.
Isshi, on your Gardevoir, recommend you forego some/all of Confusion/Hypnosis/Future Sight for Calm Mind/Double Team/Thunderbolt. My Gardevoir knows Psychic/T-Bolt/Calm Mind/Hypnosis, but I doubt Hypnosis will stay on -- it's mostly for catching help. If you kept Hypnosis, maybe you should have considered Dream Eater to go with it.
Even if Chimecho didn't have three Psychic moves, I still think you should toss it. IIRC (I've never seriously trained one) Bug types are Super Effective against both Psychics and Darks. Bug types are becoming something to worry about in R/S with the introduction of Silver Wind (basically a Bug Ancientpower).
Even if you decide to train a Chimecho, how can you leave off Heal Bell? With the exception of Skitty's line, he's the only guy in R/S that learns the move naturally (Roselia gets the equivalent Aromatherapy). And people have been known to go through complex breeding chains involving Smeargles to get Heal Bell on some Pokemon, it's that good. (Heal Bell removes all extant status ailments in your party.)
I can see a Volbeat with Signal Beam sweeping your team, mate. That's pretty sad. Recommend you replace Chimecho with a Fire-type or something.
